Final Y2K Schedule of Events in AIS

We are planning for Monday, January 3, 2000 to be a  normal workday.  We still have much to do before then, however, and some of it may have an impact on you.  The  major events are as follows:

Sunday, December 12.  Last day for software changes.  No software changes to any AIS  system can be made after December 12.  This will ensure a stable environment in which to work should any software problems occur after January 1.  Software changes will be permitted again, beginning Monday, January 3, 2000.

Wednesday, December 29.  Last business work day.  Administrative systems will be available for normal business use.

Thursday, December 30 and Friday, December 31.  We need to perform  final and lengthy backups, which are estimated to take until December 31 to complete.  Therefore, administrative systems, including Central, will not be available. Changes will also not be allowed on the AIS web server.

Saturday, January 1, 2000.  Beginning immediately after midnight, the Computer Center Operations  area and systems programmers will start testing our entire computing and telecommunications systems.  Testing of the telephones will cause no interruption of service.  The initial computer hardware tests will last until aproximately noon. Then the central administrative systems will be turned over to AIS application programmers for testing.  This testing should last throughout the afternoon.

Sunday, January 2. You will now have the opportunity to test your systems or actually enter new data into production systems.  The University’s main number, 854-1754, will provide information on the status of all University systems and services for user testing.  Information about AIS systems will also be available on the AIS web site.

Monday, January 3, 2000.  You should plan for business as usual.  We wish you all a happy and successful new year!
